After Summerfair

Exhaustion and stress, combined with a good few shots while they talked the night away ensured that Tara slept though the landing and subsequent unloading of the refugees. When Zar came looking for her, Henry had politely barred entry and suggested that she be left to sleep. She’d only been in her cot a scant few hours after they’d escorted Lloyd and the young Doctor to their respective bunk rooms.

She woke with a start from the sort of dreamless sleep that only a half bottle of Henry’s finest could deliver and still half asleep, looked at her clock. Gone nine am ship time! A look in the direction of his hammock showed he’d managed to wake up ahead of her for once and the next few minutes were full of swearing and muttering as she found clothes, gulped a couple of aspirin and headed for the Galley.

Most of the food she’d put out yesterday was long gone and she put coffee on to brew without even needing to think about it as she got out the makings of pancakes, smiling for a moment that she’d managed to skim off enough from the Christmas gig that they still had dried fruit and syrup in the stores.

Re: After Summerfair

The alcohol had helped Lloyd sleep, but only in the way that he was essentially in a coma. When the booze started to wear off he had dreams of home, back on the Zhu estate on Persephone. Things quickly turned for the worse however, as his mind took him to much darker places. The lab on Ariel, experimentation, beatings and taser blasts clouded over everything until he couldn't take it anymore.

He woke up screaming, drenched in sweat, with a hand resting on the Zhu Gunworks revolver on his bedside cabinet. His breathing was hurried, as if he'd just run a marathon, with his body physically shaking. Once he realised where he was he began to calm down, taking his hand off the revolver. The story of what Tara had come across treating another patient popped up in his mind, causing him to place the revolver in the drawer of the cabinet.

He gets dressed slowly, wary of the multiple wounds he is still recovering from, and makes his way to the galley.

Re: After Summerfair

LLoyd's bunk is far enough from the galley that she doesn't hear him wake up but she is setting the table when he arrives and it doesn't take a lot to work out the type of night he's had from his eyes and still sweat damp hair.

"Mornin', You look like you need a hot drink and some time to ease into the day." She winks at him "The batter for breakfast needs to rest a while so make yourself comfortable." She points at the small lounge area and heads back into the small kitchen area. "Tea or coffee?"

When she brings over a large mug of tea and her coffee she sits down with a sigh "How're ya doing?"

Lloyd takes the tea slowly, staring into it for a while before drinking it.

"I'll be honest, I've been better." He croaks rather than speaks, with a voice only a hangover can bring on.

"How are you this morning? I see the other passengers have left."

Re: After Summerfair

Tara sips her coffee and sighs.

"I'm good enough. I'm more used to Henry's booze anyhow." another sip, more to give herself a moment to think "I figure we both slept through the landing, maybe not such a bad thing..."

She puts her drink down and digs in her bag "I didn't give you these last night as they don't mix so well with liquor but you need to take these" She passes him one bottle "three times a day till we're sure the infection in your hand is gone and these" another bottle "you can take up to six of these a day to take the edge off the pain ok? I'll need you to come find me every day to check those dressings as well."

Finally she picks up her coffee again and drains it "In the mean time, plenty of fluids and take it easy and when you're feeling a bit less...fragile... we can go somewhere quiet if you want to talk ok?"

Re: After Summerfair

Lloyd eyes the bottles of pills suspiciously, unsure of their exact contents.

"What are these? Antibiotics or some such?"

He had grown very wary of anything medical related since his internment, and now questioned everything he was given. Even if it came from someone he knew as well as Tara. He smiled at the fragile comment, wondering if she meant his hungover state or just in general.

"I plan on taking it very easy over the next few weeks don't you worry. As for talking about stuff, I think there's a lot that I probably need to get off my chest and make sense of."

He took another big swig of tea, swilling his mouth out a bit before swallowing it. The taste from Henry's booze was beginning to go away, but not quick enough for his liking.

"Urg, I forgot how bad hangovers could be..."

Re: After Summerfair

She nods when he questions the drugs. "Yep, a long course of wide spectrum antibiotics to fight not just the infection in your hand but protect you from any problems with your other wounds till you're stronger as well. The pain killers are stronger than I'd give you just for a hangover but are pretty standard fare. I don't intend for you to be so sore you can't get comfortable but not gonna drug you up so's you're not feeling yourself either...figure that's likely the last thing you're needin'."

She gets up and stands beside him "You're probably just feeling the effect of Henry's hospitality but I'm thinking I'd better just check there's nothing making it worse." She half lifts her hand and smiles reassuringly "Are you ok with me checking you're not running a fever?"

"Thanks, no doubt the little trip to Shadow did a number on my immune system. Not to mention the surgeries that I had done."

He takes the pills with their intended dose and swallows them with a mouthful of tea, shaking his head at the taste.

"Yeah sure, check away, might be a tad difficult with this hangover mind."

Re: After Summerfair

All she does is reach over and put the back of her hand on his forehead for a few moments before smiling at him and ruffling his hair "Eh, not enough to be worried about. Just tell me if you start feeling shaky or get chills ok?"

She goes and refills her coffee and sets about cooking but the room is small enough that it all feels rather like sitting in a kitchen as smells of bacon and cinnamon drift over.
